GOD'S WORD AND OBEDIENCE

Thought:  We can read the Bible from Genesis to Revelations but if we don’t have his Spirit to teach us and practice it’s instructions, it’s to no avail.  It’s like telling your child to pick up his toys and they never get picked up.  He has no boundaries set or compliance to the rules.  In today’s families many children do not know where that line is drawn between right and wrong and without repercussions to their disobedience.

God’s word is explicit as to how He wants us to live.  His rules are the line drawn between knowing how he wants us to conduct ourselves as believers. We should know His Word and act accordingly knowing what pleases or displeases Him.

Obedience to God’s rules leads to personal growth. The fear of God (standing in awe of who He is, Creator, the great I AM, Father, Savior and King) should be our first step toward obedience.  Second, we should be putting His Word to memory to keep us on the right track and third we should obey his instructions and walk-in peace and righteousness.  The gospel message can be summed up in 3 words.  “Love one another”

Do we read God’s Word out of duty or do we read it to gain knowledge of how we should live in a way that is pleasing to Him.  Jesus told his people that He was the bread of life, food for the hungry, destitute and those who had lost hope.  He was also the spring of life in a deep well that refreshes and rejuvenates the thirsty spirit.  What does our favorite plant need to sustain life?  Isn’t it water, sunshine and food?  These three elements are what we need in our spiritual life.  SONshine spiritual water and food, the bread of life.  If you do not have these essentials, then you are spiritual anemic in need of revival through a personal relationship with Jesus and his Word who is the completeness of these things.

Prayer:  Father God, this spiritual food is all wrapped up in one person, Jesus.  He is our bread life, fresh spring water and Sonshine.  My responsibility is in obedience to His instructions.  Thank you for the blueprint (Bible) I have to build my life upon.  Amen

Verse:  James 1:22-25  “And remember, it is a message to obey, not just to listen to.  So don’t fool yourselves.  For if a person just listens and doesn’t obey, he is like a man (and women) looking at his face in a mirror; as soon as he walks away, he can’t see himself anymore or remember what he looks like.  But if anyone keeps looking steadily into God’s law (instructions) for free men/women, he will not only remember it but he will do what it says, and God will greatly bless him in everything he does.”
