Because He Hears
by PamFord Davis

I have an acute sense of smell. Many odors are offensive to me; my husband jokes about it. He knows how much the smell of smoke, gasoline or diesel on his clothing bothers me. Maybe my acute sense of smell compensates for my poor hearing. Probably not, but it made him laugh.

Assuredly, (not probably) God has perfect hearing.

He heard the cries of Hebrew captives. He heard and He intervened.

“Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ Then He said, ‘Do not come near here; remove your sandals from your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.’ And He said, ‘I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ Then Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

And the Lord said, ‘I have certainly seen the oppression of My people who are in Egypt, and have heard their outcry because of their taskmasters, for I am aware of their sufferings.  So I have come down to rescue them from the power of the Egyptians (Exodus 3:4b-8a NASB).”

The Lord hears our prayers.

“Hear my prayer, Lord,
Listen to my pleadings!
Answer me in Your faithfulness, in Your righteousness (Psalm 143:1 NASB)!”

The Lord is listening; He hears.

“I love the Lord, because He hears
My voice and my pleas.
Because He has inclined His ear to me,
Therefore I will call upon Him as long as I live (Psalm 143:1-2 NASB).”
