Pray
by PamFord Davis

We just returned from a trip to Las Vegas. No, we didn’t throw dice or spin a roulette wheel. My husband Norm ‘did’ spend many hours behind the steering wheel of our van. When younger, we could drive straight through to destinations with few rest stops. Now, in our 70’s, we take frequent breaks at rest areas and travel centers. This time, I had a scare in a travel center ladies room. I couldn’t get my door unlocked.

My door reached far above my head and nearly to the floor with a slide bolt lock. When ready to exit, I couldn’t get the lock to release. I began to panic as I thought of my options. Calling out or knocking on the door wouldn’t help. It was locked from the inside. I couldn’t get out under the door; there wasn’t enough crawl space. I finally wiggled the slide bolt loose. I unlocked the door; I was persistent.

Needing help, a neighbor persisted in their request…

“He also said to them: ‘Suppose one of you has a friend and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves of bread, because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I don’t have anything to offer him.’ Then he will answer from inside and say, ‘Don’t bother me! The door is already locked, and my children and I have gone to bed. I can’t get up to give you anything.’ I tell you, even though he won’t get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his friend’s persistence, he will get up and give him as much as he needs (Luke 11:5-8 HCSB).”

Pray.

“Keep knocking, and the door will be opened to you (Luke 11:9b HCSB).”
