Worshiping Other Gods
by Ken Barnes

Now King Solomon loved many foreign women, along with the daughter of Pharaoh: Moabite, Ammonite, Edomite, Sidonian, and Hittite women, “You shall not enter into marriage with them, neither shall they with you, for surely they will turn away your heart after their gods.” Solomon clung to these in love.  (1 Kings 11:1-2c ESV)

In the previous chapter, we see Solomon in all his splendor and wisdom, yet we see foreign women enticing his heart in this chapter.  The result would be that his kingdom would not endure.  In our nation today, we are being seduced by foreign deities alien to Christian thought.  If we submit to them, we as a Christian people or as a righteous nation will not endure.

Every day we are bombarded by the gods of our land on TV and social media.  Constantly we are told that lifestyles that are not acceptable in the Bible are okay in our culture. Homophonic and unloving are the labels put on anyone who stands for Biblical truth.

It is okay to kill babies in the womb to protect the mother's rights, rules our legal system.  The gods of the land are enticing us to submit to them.  Figuratively speaking, if we wed ourselves with the mindset of the world, we will no longer be salt and light.

Christians have never been popular.  Why should we think it would be any different for us?  We are unpopular because we fear God, and we hate many of the things that the world loves.  By hate, we never mean towards people, but their actions that challenge God's law.

As Christians, our approval will not come from our public applause by worshiping the gods of this world, but by our faithfulness to God's Word.
