Gentleness
by PamFord Davis

I heard a popular old song on the radio today. Sung by Dinah Shore, ‘Dear Hearts and Gentle People’ was published in 1949 with lyrics by Bob Hilliard and music by Sammy Fain. They just don’t make them like that anymore.

I thought about gentleness.

God is all powerful; yet, He is gentle.

“You have also given me the shield of Your salvation;
Your gentleness has made me great (Psalm18:35 NKJV).”

The Lord, our Shepherd, is gentle.

“He will feed His flock like a shepherd;
He will gather the lambs with His arm,
And carry them in His bosom,
And gently lead those who are with young (Isaiah 40:11 NKJV).”

The Holy Spirit is gentle.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV).”

Wisdom is gentle.

“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy (James 3:17 NKJV).”

What would people say about me? How gentle am I?

“And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient (2 Timothy 2:24 NKJV).”
