Write Queen - Mmangosteen - Pt II
by Freda Douglas

In part I we discussed the mangosteen fruit, the free radical battle and do we really need supplements. In this Part II we will delve into polysccharides and sterols, proanthocyanidins and catechins and lastly Xanthones. Don't let the big words scare you. The description is not as scary.

Besides xanthones the mangosteen fruit contains compounds that are well known by scientists to fight disease and contribute to the health of various body systems. Proanthocyanidins are powerful antioxodants
that can restrict the damage oxidants, reduce inflammation levels, and reduce pain due to inflammation and oxidative stress.

Catechins are a class of bioflavonids that protect the body from the ravages of free radicals. They have been studied extensively, with findings suggesting the compounds can protect the heart and blood vessels, fight cancer, lower the risk of stroke and reduce the effects of diabetes and related illnesses.

Polysaccharides and Sterols

Mngosteen fruit also contain polysaccharies, sometimes referred to as 'sugars' or 'glyconutrients' which are
increasingly thought to optimize immune function and facilitate communication between cells.

Sterols are powerful plant nutrients that can protect the integrity of blood vessels and reduce levels of low density lipids that lowers the risk of vascular related conditions such as atherosclerosis.

Finally, let's learn about xanthones. (zan-thones)

One aspect of the mangosteen fruit that has drawn the interest of scientists is its xanthone content. Xanthones are a class of nutrients largely absent from the food of potential customers, but has been proven to possess very exciting properties.

Laboratory research has shown that xanthones may relieve inflammation, fight pathogens such as bacteria, viruses and fungi, neutralize free radicals and reduce pain and fever. A handful of studies
suugest that xanthones may be able to restrict the activity of cancerous cells...

Science has shown that the mangosteen contains at least 40 different xanthones, and that number will undoubtedly grow as science continues to study these noteworthy phytonutrients.

This concludes the articles about the mangosteen fruit and its scientific contents. The next article(s) will describe 22 and counting reasons you might use mangosteen juice for you and your family, and why you might want to suggest its use to your friends, coworkers and business associates.
