The Nest
by PamFord Davis

Have you ever been homesick?

I remember once when our daughter went to summer camp. Her church GA group (Girls in Action missions) was up in the mountains near Idyllwild, California. We received a phone call telling us we needed to come and get her. She had some health issues and wanted her momma and daddy.

To this day, I can almost feel her arms clinging around me when we arrived. Loneliness and homesickness turned to happiness. She was going home.

My Dad experienced a severe bout of homesickness too. My parents were legally separated at the time and he moved to California to be near us. The relocation was short lived. He missed Mom and his familiar surroundings of Central New York State. It wasn’t long after returning home that he and Mom reconciled; they repeated their marriage vows in a formal church ceremony.

Friends are fulfilling their vows of service in a faraway mission field. Due to unforeseen circumstances, they had been away for a lengthy time. They were homesick and heartbroken. Their longing to return has become reality and a celebration will soon be underway. They’ve returned to the nest!

“Like a bird that wanders from its nest,
So is a person who wanders from his home (Proverbs 27:8 NASB).”
