Ripe Old Age
by PamFord Davis

You might say that I have a one-track mind.

My mind often rides the rails.

Yet, when thinking, I often trigger memories and get derailed.

Choo-Choo!

Yesterday, I was thinking…

I needed new bedroom slippers.

Well, to be honest I'd wear them in all the rooms.

Slippers keep my feet warm and comfortable; (focused on buying slippers), I thought about people calling them house shoes.

House shoes triggered memories of my Grandpa Ford.

They were happy memories; he wore black leather house shoes.

I’m glad that I was derailed.

I miss Grandpa; his aftershave, hugs and checker games.

Grandpa lived to the ripe old age of 91.

He was bent over with age but erect in his standing before the Savior.

"You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the Lord (Leviticus 19:32 NKJV).”
