Look, it's a Gourd!

Look, it’s a gourd!

Gourd growers use a lot of seeds in their planting. In addition, gourd seed often comes out of dried gourds after harvesting. It’s not unusual to see new gourds popping up in lawns far from the gourd patch. Birds also eat and carry the seed.

“Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: ‘Behold, a sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth (Matthew 13:3-5 NKJV).”

An unexpected gourd plant sprang up in a crack of pavement; the gourd should have come as no surprise. It was growing in front of the gourds business on Main Street, Oak Grove.

Am I growing; are you?

Are we maturing in our faith?

“You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;  but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:17-18 NKJV).”

Growth requires a good root system.

“For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love (Ephesians 3:14-17 NKJV).”
