WHEN TO COUNT CHICKENS: Rhyming Children's Story
by linzy bruno
Chickens in a fenced-in yard, run wild and free, so when the rooster counts them, they’re not too far away to see.
One day the rooster asked the chickens to help count in the rain, but those lazy chickens stayed in their nests; counting eggs in vain.
Then the smartest rooster lectured: “Don’t count your chickens while they’re still in their eggs; wait to hear the crackling and see them standing upon their scrawny legs.
And even for eggs’ sake, if the farmer comes from his house for scrambled eggs to make, how will he be able to eat them if when he picks them up they fall and break?
Futhermore, I hope you all remember that this is a steadfast rule you must treasure this knowledge and no one will call you a fool!”
“Oh…..ALRIGHT!” All the chickens hollered. “If we knew about that rule, do you think we would have bothered?”
Then the biggest rooster climbed a ladder; shouting as he rang a large bell: “Far better is it to wait and count chickens AFTER they break free from their shells!”
But then something more rose up amidst all the chicken chatter, “Maybe eggs can’t be counted, but that doesn’t mean that eggs don’t matter!”
Then all the chickens and roosters danced around for all the farmers in a line so happy, about when to count chickens, any day, rain or shine!
