If You're Going to Eat Junk, Eat This First!
by Tonja Taylor

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.--James 1:5, ESV

I've learned through the years--after suffering much in physical discomfort and pain, allergic reactions, and more--that, if I know I am going to eat food I don't normally eat, then I should eat some protein before I leave the house.

When I asked Him, the LORD gave me wisdom about how to eat more wisely. God is so good--when we ask for wisdom, He always shows us what to do--or stop doing! It may take a day or several, but if we seek Him, read His Word, pray, and worship, He will answer! I do not mean we do "works" to get His answer or attention; I just mean that, when we do these things, we better align our minds and emotions with His, and thus we can hear more clearly!

Hallelujah! God is our good, good Father (once we have received Jesus Christ, His Son, as our Savior and LORD, that is! John 3:15-17), and He will always help us. He loves us, and adopted us on purpose through Jesus's shed blood at the cross, to lavish His love upon us!

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ--Ephesians 1:7-9, English Standard Version

Hallelujah!

So, the wisdom He gave me is this: eat protein before you go to a party or other gathering, where you know you'll eat things you don't normally eat, or more than usual (i.e., sugar, fried foods, things like chips that don't have much nutrition, etc.). That will help balance the sugar (and by the way, fried and starchy foods usually turn into sugar(s)), and not overwhelm your pancreas. Plus, of course, you'll feel more full.

Drinking water is good, too, to help you feel more full, and to hydrate your system anyway. (It's been proven by experts that you cannot drink too much water! The only real "side effect" is you'll be doing to the bathroom more than usual! So, I'm preaching to myself here!)

Eating is a very social thing, and, although I have excellent self-control, when I'm at a party (especially a church gathering!), it has been hard to resist certain things.  "It's blessed!" I tell my husband, when he looks at me like, Are you really eating that?

"Remember, at least 90 percent of the time, we eat organic, NON-gmo foods, with little or no sugar, and low fat and all that!" I reply, then smile and eat the cheesecake (or whatever).

So, by the way  (I will soon be a certified health coach, but a lot of this stuff, I learned through the years to get rid of health challenges, and it got easier as I learned to ask God for wisdom!), when you eat very healthily most of the time, your body can better handle lesser-quality food on a rare occasion.

Enough said, but the bottom line is, if you're unsure, ask your Father, Who created you, loves you, and sustains you every breath!

You can start your journey to greater health today!
