Forever Faith
by PamFord Davis

Grandma and Grandpa Ford met through a divine encounter.

She was teaching a Bible study in a store front mission in Syracuse, NY. I’ll never know why he went inside. Had he been there before? Did he enter for shelter or a free meal? They were both in heaven by the time I learned how they met.

Mom told the story to my husband Norm when he was doing genealogy research on my family. Though I’d never heard that Grandma taught the Bible; I had no reason to doubt it. She had a deep abiding faith and lived it out in tangible ways. Grandma loved the LORD, family and all the neighborhood children.

I was a child (when in conversation) I told Grandma that I loved something. I don’t remember what the thing was but clearly recall her reaction. She scolded me; young and impressionable, her words cut to the quick. Grandma told me not to love ‘things.’

“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.  And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever (1 John 2:15-17 NKJV).”

Grandma wanted me to have forever faith; I needed her correction.
