THAT LAZY CAT!: A Children's Rhyming Story
by linzy bruno

                                                Around the corner

                                                and down the street,

                                                there’s a funny cat

                                                you really should meet.

                                                This cat is lazy;

                                                wide, fat and round.

He lyes sometimes on his belly

                                                or even upside-down!

                                                He lyes and he lyes

                                                all day, you see

                                                and when he’s not sleeping

                                                he’s eating and watching TV!

                                                Until one day, his owner

                                                brought a cute puppy home.

Well, that puppy ran and jumped

                                                and leaped after his bone!

                                                “He never seems to stop

                                                running to and fro,”

                                                the lazy cat hissed,

“I have to make him go!”

                                                “There must be a way

to get rid of this clumsy dog!”

                                                The lazy cat cried,

“But my owner’s going to keep him

and I’ve no place to hide.”

Well, that lazy cat went crazy with this

                                                all day long,

until all at once, he thought

                                                maybe he was wrong.

For you see, that little puppy,

finally worn out, curled up in the cat’s lap!

                                                They closed their eyes together

and enjoyed a nice long nap.

                                                When the cat woke up

                                                and saw the puppy there,

                                                he was surprised,

                                                but he started to care.

                                                “Maybe he’s not so bad,”

the lazy cat changed his mind,

so he got up and tried to run,

                                                but fell on his behind!

                                                The puppy was delighted

                                                and ran around even more,

                                                until the cat was exhausted,

and collapsed in front of the back door!

                                                That lazy cat was slow,

not fast and spry, like the pup,

                                                but at least, FINALLY,

                                                that lazy cat got up!
