7 Benefits of Singing
by Tonja Taylor

1 O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth! 2 Sing to the Lord, bless (affectionately praise) His name; show forth His salvation from day to day.  3 Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples. 4 For great is the Lord and greatly to be praised; He is to be reverently feared and worshiped above all [so-called] gods.--Psalm 96:1-4, AMPC

When I did a topic search for "sing" just now in the Amplified Classic Bible (AMPC) online, there were 234 Scriptures talking about singing!

God loves singing, and it is said by some Hebrew scholars that the LORD God sang the earth into existence!

Truly, God is the coolest! (Over 20 years ago, I was working an evangelistic outreach in another city, and I was overwhelmed with thankfulness and joy to be a part of God's work in the earth. I looked up and said out loud, "God, You are so cool!" "The coolest!" He replied quickly, in my heart! Amen and amen!)

Forget Star Trek--GOD--Elohim, the Creator and Sustainer of the Heavens and the earth--is the "last Frontier," and the more we explore of Him, the Majesty, the more we realize the truly awesome endlessness of the living God, Jesus Christ the King!

Now, where was I? Oh yes, talking about singing. Just focusing for a bit on the awesome (I only use that word for Him, for there is nothing (to me) deserving of that word other than the LORD our God and His work!) goodness of God (and everything in our lives that's good is from God!

When we are children, singing often spontaneously occurs. As older teens and adults, we still like to sing along to songs we love, but our singing is usually much less spontaneous. However, when we are full of God, we often cannot help but thank Him by singing His praise--and there are many benefits to that!

1. One is just sheer joy--gladness! We just delight in how good God has been to us, to love and save and protect and direct and provide and teach us, and be with us always.

2. Another is replacing the wicked (depressing, frustrating, irritating, tormenting, etc.) thoughts with the righteous thoughts (love, peace, joy, thankfulness, righteousness-conscious; God-with-us-and-for-us conscious, victory, abundance, freedom, favor, healing, strength, restoration, etc.).

3. An additional benefit can be deliverance and healing occurring in ourselves and others, as the Holy Spirit leads--for when we sing praises to the LORD, the enemy is ashamed and defeated (reminded of his defeat at the cross!) and cannot stand to stay, and the LORD Jesus Christ is magnified and can do great and mighty things, for He lives in our praise!

4. A powerful one is to bring praise and glory and honor to the LORD, Who is worthy of all our worship!

5. One of the best (and they're all good benefits!) is that singing to the LORD can grow your faith, for when we sing praises to the LORD, we become more aware of how much more loving, faithful, powerful, and gracious He is!

6. Another could be that others are liberated to be free to sing to the LORD, when your kids or more hear you sing.

7. You can receive divine direction as you worship the LORD in song!

As one preacher stated, with a chuckle, "We can all sing, but we should not all record."

If you don't think your voice sounds good enough for recording, no worries. You can get training to help with that, if you want to perform a lot in public or record, or both.

Here's the best part: When we sing from our hearts to our dear Daddy God, He loves it! It brings Him joy, and that is the best benefit of all! Just like we love it when our little ones sing, how much more does our Daddy God Who created us in love and gives us every breath love our songs--in tune or not?! Hallelujah!

How great and gracious is our God, so, let us 6 Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! 7 For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises in a skillful psalm and with understanding.--Psalm 47:6-7, AMPC

Amen and amen!
