Exclusive Duty Of God
by Olawale Ogunsola

"To me belongeth vengeance and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste." Deuteronomy 32:35.

By human nature, there is an instinct in man to take revenge on anyone who steps on his toes. He always have out-of-proportion measure to melt unto him who has done him wrong. A man, Lamech, once said,
"I killed a man for wounding me, a young man who attacked me." Genesis 4:23.
Is the judgment commensurate with the offence? That is mankind for you.

That may be one of the reasons the Lord will never allow man to take revenge on his own. After all, "For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God." James 1:20.
So, the work of vengeance is an exclusive one that cannot be usurped by anybody, except the person He has raised as a weapon of vengeance. Otherwise, anyone who carries out any vengeance is bound to face the penalty from God.

This was the problem that Edom faced as a nation in the hands of the Lord God of Israel.
"25:12 Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because that Edom hath dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and hath greatly offended, and revenged himself upon them;
25:14 And I will lay my vengeance upon Edom by the hand of my people Israel: and they shall do in Edom according to mine anger and according to my fury; and they shall know my vengeance, saith the Lord GOD." Ezekiel.

Beloved, it is better to report any offender to the Lord for the right and appropriate corrective measure or punishment as the case may be. Do not take"laws" into your hands.
Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
