The Core of Critical Thinking
by Tonja Taylor

And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the 'gods' which your fathers served on the other side of the River, or the 'gods' of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.--Joshua 24:15, AMPC

"Critical thinking" is a buzzword in our world of education, and in other realms, such as business. However, it all comes down to choice, and God said it first: "Choose life!"

We teach our students (and ourselves) to think "higher" and "more creatively" to solve problems--in school; in small groups; for our personal needs; for life.

As Believers, the best way we can serve our students and their families, and teach them the truest "critical thinking" is to tell them that we depend on the LORD our God, Jesus Christ, to think right, and thus live creatively and successfully.

16 For who has known or understood the mind (the counsels and purposes) of the Lord so as to guide and instruct Him and give Him knowledge? But we have the mind of Christ (the Messiah) and do hold the thoughts (feelings and purposes) of His heart.--I Corinthians 2:16, AMPC

They must know that true wisdom only comes from Christ.

They must know that all true creativity and problem-solving only comes from Christ. God is Elohim, the Creator. (The enemy cannot create anything; he can only pervert (it means "twist") what God has created!).

They must know that God--Who is the good, good, Father--cares about them, and about the details of all our lives, and wants to help us with them!

Our students must know that we depend on the wisdom of God to help us make the right choices; to think "critically" as the world calls it, and to solve problems.

All true wisdom is found in Jesus Christ, the LORD of all.

If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him.--James 1:5, AMPC

May the LORD help us as educators to be ever bolder and more effective in every way, and all the more as The Day of Jesus Christ's return approaches!
