Forgive!
by Royce Logan

After this manner therefore pray ye:

Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:9-15 (KJV)

Sometimes when we say to someone "I forgive you," they get all defensive and believe in their heart (whether they actually say it or not):

"You don't have to forgive me! I didn't do anything wrong! You're the one with the problem!"

But, they've missed the point. Your forgiveness of them is not for them, it's for you!

Jesus tells us in Matthew six that in order for God to forgive us of our sins, our debts, our trespasses against others, we first must forgive those who have trespassed against us. And if we don't (or won't) He's not going to forgive us!

Our whole Christian foundation is based on being forgiven for our sins. If we fail to forgive others, then our sins can not be forgiven either.

Is there anyone you need to forgive today so that God can forgive you?

If someone has trespassed against you and you fail to forgive that person, then Matthew six says that God will not forgive you!

Do it today. Right now. Forgive them in your heart, for God knows your heart.

And if you can, go see that person today, or call that person right now, or send them a letter or an email; do something, do anything; just get it done and God will forgive you and bless you for your understanding of these words from our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Pray this prayer right now:

"Father, I forgive all those who have risen against me, who have trespassed against me, who owe me any kind of debt whatsoever. I forgive them now and forever and I forgive them in my heart. Now, I ask you to forgive me. Cleanse me and make me righteous again. I ask this and receive this in Jesus' name. Amen."

Don't carry around the burden of unforgiveness in your heart. Get rid of it today and receive the forgiveness from God that He has promised you.
