Last Words, Forgiveness and Eternal Life
by PamFord Davis

Most remember the last words of their loved ones. I certainly remember Mom’s: I had no way of knowing she would die a few days later.

I don’t know how long Apostle Paul lived after voicing the following passage. Yet, his words carry weight until this very day.

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing (2 Timothy 4:6-8 KJV).”

I will be sharing Jesus’ last words in this week’s devotions.

#1 “Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do (Luke 23:34a KJV).”

Jesus forgave His accusers.

He forgave Judas, who betrayed Him.

Jesus forgave Peter, who denied Him.

He forgave religious leaders who condemned Him.

Jesus forgave Pilate.

He forgave the Roman soldiers who flogged Him and nailed His body to the cross.

Jesus forgave me; He forgave you.

He forgave a thief on a cross.

#2 “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise (Luke 23:43 KJV).”

The thief’s faith led to his forgiveness and eternal life. He would be with his Lord and Savior.

“We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8 KJV).”
