My Heavenly Home
by PamFord Davis

It was nothing like I expected.

Maybe you have been just as surprised. The sound of someone’s voice on the radio or telephone can be deceiving. I don’t know why but I create a mental picture of what the person looks like. I’m often surprised if I see them in person.

Their appearance was nothing like I pictured. I haven’t actually seen Jesus but I believe some of my assumptions are wrong.

“For He [the Servant of God] grew up before Him like a tender shoot (plant),
And like a root out of dry ground;
He has no stately form or majestic splendor
That we would look at Him,
Nor [handsome] appearance that we would be attracted to Him (Isaiah 53:2 AMP).”

That may not describe what I’d expect. Sadly, it is an apt description of the beaten, flogged and crucified Christ.

My expectations of places can also be wrong.

We had never visited Florida before locating there from Texas. I pictured all of Florida with palm trees and beaches. In reality, most of the Florida panhandle has tall pine trees. I wonder what God has prepared for me in my heavenly home.

“… but just as it is written [in Scripture],

‘Things which the eye has not seen and the ear has not heard,
And which have not entered the heart of man,
All that God has prepared for those who love Him [who hold Him in affectionate reverence, who obey Him, and who gratefully recognize the benefits that He has bestowed].’

For God has unveiled them and revealed them to us through the [Holy] Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things [diligently], even [sounding and measuring] the [profound] depths of God [the divine counsels and things far beyond human understanding] (1 Corinthians 2:9-10 AMP).”

Far beyond my understanding...
