What Things?
by PamFord Davis

Pen in hand, Apostle John came to his conclusion.

“This is the disciple who is testifying about these things and wrote these things, and we know that his testimony is true.

But there are also many other things which Jesus did, which, if they were written in detail, I expect that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written (John 21:24-25 NASB).”

What things?

Readers of John’s Gospel are left to wonder and ponder. How many more miracles did Jesus perform? How many other people did He heal, deliver from demons and give forgiveness of sins? John’s closing leads me to believe that he had lost count.

“You know of Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed Him with the Holy Spirit and with power, and how He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38 NASB).”

Apostle John was one of twelve disciples. Each likely had their own favorite stories of things that Jesus did and said. I’m grateful for all that is preserved in the gospels. They point us to Jesus.

Peter had this to say… “ so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which perishes though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory, obtaining as the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls (1 Peter 1:7-9 NASB).”
