Efficacy Of Love 2.
by Olawale Ogunsola

Do you know that love matters do not relate to women and marriage alone? It crosses every segment of human affairs. It is a weapon that establishes a smooth relationship between humanity. Where it is lacking, troubles loom!

Love always brings every desired result sooner or later. This is because one of the attributes of love is long-suffering.
In Bible days, two friends proved that it is possible for two friends to love each other as much as they are faithful.
Their names were Jonathan and David.
Let me state here that the duo remains the epitome of nothing that can impair or obstruct love.

What do I mean?

Let me express it this way: both came from two extreme backgrounds in life. Jonathan was the son of the first king of Israel, ie King Saul. On the other hand, David came from a humble background, 1 Samuel 18:23, and the family was not rich.

However, destiny brought them together and their hearts were knitted together and it was forever. Both met in the palace when Abner the captain of the hosts brought him to the king after his victory over Goliath of Gath. The Holy Bible records,
"18:1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his soul. 1 Samuel.

Was there any proof of this in their dealings? Yes, there was!
After they met, Jonathan emptied himself for David. The Holy Bible reveals, "18:4 And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and his girdle." 1 Samuel.

Not only that, he was only interested in pleasing his friend. He told David when it became clear that King Saul was ready to kill David, "Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee." 1 Samuel 20:4.

Jonathan laid his life down to protect David. His father, King Saul, almost killed him because he was busy protecting and defending David. King Saul threw a javelin at him to kill him. It was God who saved him, 1 Samuel 20:33.

Let me give another example. As the first son of a king, he was the right person to become king after his father. Do you know what? Because of the love he had for his bosom friend, David, he was ready to abdicate the throne for David to become the king while he was ready to settle for the second position. The Scriptures confirm, "17 And he said unto him, Fear not: for the hand of Saul my father shall not find thee, and thou shalt be king over Israel, and I shall be next unto thee, and that also Saul my father knoweth. 1 Samuel 23.

Jonathan purposed that the love between him and David should outlive them. This was his desire and both entered into a covenant. The Scriptures discloses, "14 And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not:
15 But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house forever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.1 Samuel 20.

The love continued after the death of Jonathan when David became the king of the nation of Israel. When the Lord has given him rest, he remembered his friend's love for him and the love covenant, he asked, "1 Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan's sake?" 2 Samuel 9.

This was the question that led to the discovery of Mephiboseth, a lame man who was brought to the palace as one of the Princes.
Can you see the efficacy of love at play? Go out and show some love. It is rewarding. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord.
