The One True God
by Kenneth Bridge

Eternal and everlasting God
The same yesterday, today, and forever
In the beginning, a singularity in space and time, cosmic plasma exploding, flinging galaxies and stars and quasars and planets and black holes across the vast reaches of infinite space at the sound of Your command,
"Let there be light!"
And should the last struggling star gutter out into eternal cold dark night,
You would still be there.
Eternal and everlasting God
The same yesterday, today, and forever

You are exalted above all gods
You are high and lifted up and yet dwell with the lowly and contrite of heart,
The destinies of tribes and nations are in Your hands,
Your praises are sung in all tongues and in all latitudes,
And yet you number the very hairs on my head.
You are the invisible ingredient in the cosmic soup, cholinesterase to acetylcholine, You dwell in the space between the firing of synapses,
You are the highway across which my thoughts travel,
You are the river down which my dreams sail,
You are the voice of my lover calling to me out of the depths.
Eternal and everlasting God
The same yesterday, today, and forever.

The God of the oceans in its depth and on its trackless surfaces,
You are present in the microbial broth of steaming vents,
You live in the cold darkness teaming with strange and alien beings, luminous with threat and hunger,
You delight in their unfamiliar wildness known intimately only by You
You are present in the vast tidal movement
And you dance in the sunlight on the surface,
The rolling breakers and riptides and undertows are also Yours,
Eternal and everlasting God
The same yesterday, today and forever.

Your love is as real and gentle as the soft crying of a baby in a manger,
And as fierce as nails biting through flesh and blood and nerve to fix you to a rough wooden cross on a hill called Golgotha,
You spared no expense to redeem us,
You gave us Your very Best
Eternal and everlasting God,
The same yesterday, today and forever.
Amen
