Forward, Back
by PamFord Davis

Our standard of time keeping changes in November. I forget; do we set our clocks forward an hour or back? It’s not complicated; remember the seasons. We spring forward; we fall back.

Goodbye daylight savings time; I hate to see you go.

Reluctantly, I’ll fall back.

I’m already dreading the long dark nights of fall and winter. The Lord possesses both day and night.

“The day is Yours, also the night;
You established the moon and the sun (Psalm 74:16 HCSB).”

The Creator is in full control of light and darkness; day and night.

“The night shines like the day;
darkness and light are alike to You (Psalm 139:12b HCSB).”

God’s ways are beyond human understanding. Though hard to comprehend, His children will one day have no need for light from the sun or moon. The Book of Revelation gives us a glimpse into the New Jerusalem.

“The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. The nations will walk in its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. Each day its gates will never close because it will never be night there. They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. Nothing profane will ever enter it: no one who does what is vile or false, but only those written in the Lamb’s book of life (Revelation 21:23-27 HCSB).”

His promises are in the Book. Is your name in the book of life?
