Avoid Anger
by PamFord Davis

“You won’t like me when I’m angry!”
Hulk was right.

I don’t like me when I’m angry.

There’s no excuse for angry outbursts in the lives of Christ followers. I’ve been convicted and ashamed. Yet; God is merciful; He has opened my eyes to a source of my anger. I’m fearful when things are out of my control. Satan recognized my fear as weakness and used it to bring in anger.

Honestly, I don’t like me when I’m angry. The LORD doesn’t want me to be angry.

“One who is slow to anger has great understanding;
But one who is quick-tempered exalts foolishness (Proverbs 14:29 NASB).”

“A gentle answer turns away wrath,
But a harsh word stirs up anger (Proverbs 15:1 NASB).”

“A fool always loses his temper,
But a wise person holds it back (Proverbs 29:11 NASB).”

Love replaces anger.

“Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered (1 Corinthians 13:4-5 NASB).”

I will heed the words of Jesus’ half brother James.

“You know this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Now everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger (James 1:19 NASB).”

Praise the LORD; I can avoid anger.

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13 NASB).”
