Paul Made a Wish
by PamFord Davis

Guess what I got yesterday?

I wasn’t expecting it; it took me by surprise.

My 'Montgomery Ward' Christmas (wish-book) catalog arrived in yesterday’s mail. I had an instantaneous flashback to the 1950’s and early 60’s. As a young girl I had turned page after page in the toy section of the thick catalog.

Returning to the present, I quickly noticed how thin this year’s mail out is. On line shopping has replaced the popularity of ordering from catalogs but wishing and hoping is timeless.

LORD, I realize that in most cases wishing is worthless. Yet, Apostle Paul made a wish.

“I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,

That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

For I could wish that myself were accursed from Christ for my brethren, my kinsmen according to the flesh:

Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;

Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen (Romans 9:1-5 KJV).”

I’m blessed with a lively hope.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter 1:3-5 KJV).”
