Hurts so Bad
by PamFord Davis

'On a scale of 1-10, how do you rate the pain?'

'Doctor, it’s off the scale.' (You’re not interested in imaginary scales; you just want the pain to stop).

I still remember the sound of crying in an adjoining room. Going to see what was wrong; I found my sister Donna sitting on her sofa and gripped in pain.

Feeling helpless, she said, ‘It just hurts so bad.’

Donna’s hip and back pain seemed never ending. Physical suffering was a daily reminder of the stroke she experienced at the early age of 27. Pain killers brought only minimal relief and some were addictive. With wisdom she stopped taking dangerous drugs and lived one day at a time. Merciful God put an end to Donna’s unbearable pain; she died peacefully at the age of 62.

I have compassion for the hurting and helpless; the Lord has more. He promises His people an end to tears, sickness, pain and death.

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, ‘Behold, the tabernacle of God is among the people, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away (Revelation 21:1-4 NASB).”
