We can buy shirts made in Bangladesh, toys, tools and computers made in China, and HP printers and cars made in Mexico. We can
buy shoes from South East Asia, and almost anything we want from 20 different foreign countries, but heaven help the senior
citizens who dare to buy their Prescription drugs from a Canadian or Mexican pharmacy. That's called Un-American!

This past February, as a part of the new budget for 2008, Congress is considering eliminating $25 billion in Medicaid
spending, a sizeable fraction of the $300 billion total Medicaid budget. But, illegal residents of this country are receiving
healthcare at the expense of legal residents and permanent aliens. Breaking the laws of this country should not be rewarded with free services, especially when in doing so, they mushroom the cost of programs like Welfare and Medicaid, prompting the government to propose cuts that affect the rest of us.

In addition, billions of our tax dollars are being wasted by our elected representatives. It is difficult to ascertain what the country gets out of pork projects such as the $194,000
Representative John Murtha (D-Pa.) secured for the construction of a new community center in Green County, Pa. And how about
the $223 million secured by Don Young (R-Alaska) to build a bridge nearly as long as the Golden Gate and higher than the
Brooklyn Bridge, to connect the town of Ketchikan (population 8,900) to the city airport on Gravina Island (population 50).
Currently, the link is provided by a 10-minute ferry ride that has worked for years.

The War on Terror and hurricane relief currently costs $103 billion, plus $20 billion more on pork projects than the $103
billion requested. The federal government's General Accounting Office estimates for every $10 spent on Medicare, $1 is lost to
waste, fraud or abuse. How come that for every dollar Alaskans pay in at-the-pump gas taxes, they get $6.60 back at the expense of the rest of the country?

Congress, has largely abandoned its constitutional duty and has
steadfastly refused to address the waste littered across government programs. In 2003, an attempt by House Budget
Committee Chairman Jim Nussle (R-IA) to address wasteful spending was rejected by the House of Representatives, and
similar calls in 2004 by then-Senate Budget Committee Chairman Don Nickles (R-OK) were rejected by the Senate.

How come one shot of Neulasta used in Chemotherapy treatment costs $3,000, and pills to prevent nausea in the treatment cost over $100 each? Who knows if there is already a cure for cancer that is not being released because cancer treatment is big
business.

I grant you that the United States is a great place to live. We have electricity and running water 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week? We have air conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter and 95.4 percent of folks have a job? We also have the ability to walk into a grocery store at any time and see more food in moments than Darfur has seen in the last year. We are
able to walk the streets without fear of being blown up by a car bomb.

So what then is the problem? We need to hold our elected representatives accountable. Pork spending that benefits a few at the expense of all must be eliminated. Obscene health costs must be brought under control. Hidden taxes, especially on small businesses, have to be eliminated if they are to survive. Isn't
it time for us to take back control of our country. The politicians won't do it - all they seem to be interested in is
getting reelected. We are the only ones who can - pick your candidates carefully.
