Exploding Mississippi Mud Cake
by Betty Castleberry

1 baked Mississippi Mud Cake (*IMPORTANT! You MUST bake this in a glass pan!)
1 can of blackeye peas
1 preoccupied cook

Place freshly baked, made from srcatch Mississippi Mud Cake on top of stove to cool.

Open can of blackeye peas, and season to taste.
Place over medium high heat on stove top.

Busy yourself with your pets, the novel you are reading, the 6:00 o'clock news, or anything guaranteed to take your attention away from where it should be.

Look around in genuine shock and surprise when you hear a loud pop coming from the direction of the stove. See your beautiful cake in a messy heap of busted glass on top of HOT burner.

Realize you turned the wrong burner on to cook the blackeye peas. Watch as sticky, gooey globs of chocolate and marshmallow smoke all over your stove top and run down into those impossible to reach recesses under the burner.

Throw hands up and cry. Thank God for your cool headed husband who rushes to kitchen to remove fire hazard from stove, turn off burner and start cleaning up mess.

Take birds to back bedroom where they are removed from harmful smoke. Listen to them squawk in protest at being hastily snatched from their perches.

Throw out blackeye peas as they are now laced with glass shards. Pick glass out of your bare feet, and sweep up glass from floor.

This recipe yields one upset cook, three befuddled birds, and a pizza delivered to your door.

If I had been paying attention, this wouldn't have happened at all, and I wish I had acted a little more responsibly when it did happen. It could have been an even worse disaster. At least God gave me a sense of humor, and I can laugh about it now.

Proverbs 24:10 If you fail under pressure, your strength is not very great. ~
