The Life That Sat Among Us
by Ruby Harris

Life sat among us
Brought into the world by pain.
Growing into a special gift from Heaven,
Crossing our paths time and again.
Pain again affected that life
Just seeming to be a thorn in the flesh.
Hope brought survival for a while.
The soul was often touched afresh.
Then the pain dug in deeper.
Solace was hunted, the pain to hide.
Closing the door that once allowed entrance
Barred by instances of foolish pride.
The battle raged, wanting victory to stay.
Some days it seems as though won.
Then came the days the staff was needed
Leaning on the support wishing the pain gone.
Now the life that sat among us
Moved to a dimension that is his fare.
Sitting in the presence of one so great
That no pain will be allowed there.
We are left to look at where life sat
Hoping somehow it might reappear.
But, we only have to remember his character
Knowing somehow, our hearts, he can hear.
The life that sat among us
Left far more than he could know
for we can smile inside amongst the tears
Letting our friends and fellow workers know
That we can experience the same great joy
That we felt as we passed where he sat
Looking inside and feeling his compassion
Living life with no regret.
So the life that sat among us
Sits in rapture sweet and rare
Enveloped in the life that gave him life
Reminding us we can meet him there.

inspired by all who love the life that sat among us

My poems are spiritual lessons God teaches me in my walk with Him. The more I learn, the more I find I need to be taught by Him. If we really want to be like Him we have to be ready for all the changes He brings to us.
