What I Learned From My Other Dog
by Nancy Quinn

I have two wonderful, furry, and faithful dogs. The enthusiastic and very entertaining dog named Scooby you met in a previous devotional. My eighty-pound, quiet Golden Retriever named Princess is who this devotional is about. They have two totally opposite personalities, and I have learned things from my quiet dog too.

PEACE: Princess is a quiet dog, and she's content to just peacefully lie at my feet. She moves slowly (and you might say majestically since her name is Princess after all!). Her calm spirit reminds me that I need to remember to just rest at the feet of Jesus and be filled with His peace.
Psalm 23:2 "He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters."

WATCHFUL: Even though Princess is a quiet dog, when we hear a deep growl we know she's guarding our home and warning us that danger may be near. She very conscientiously watches over us and takes her job in the home seriously! It reminds me that God loves me and is always watching over our home and each of us too.
Psalm 4:8 "In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe."

OBEDIENCE: Unlike Scooby, who is reluctantly obedient at times (that couch is very comfortable!), Princess quickly responds to our commands with total trust. It reminds me that I need to be quick to obey the Lord and always trust where He leads me. Lord, may I never be reluctant to follow You. Your will always be done, not mine.
Psalm 25:10 "The Lord leads with unfailing love and faithfulness all who keep His covenant and obey His demands."

I'm sure you have learned a lot from your wonderful, furry friends too. And as the old saying goes, "Dear Lord, please make me into the person my dog thinks I am." May God bless you and your family; and remember the Lord loves you and He's watching over and protecting you today too!

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
