Friendships and Hair Issues
by Nancy Quinn

My teenage son was getting his hair cut at my friend's house and she noticed some dry spots on his head so recommended Vaseline on those spots to take away the dryness. Well, let's just say we were thankful it was Christmas break because washing, and washing, and washing the hair that week did not make the Vaseline come out. (Although the good news is that those dry areas were gone!)

With the beginnings of toying with the idea that he wouldn't look too bad with a shaved head, I searched the internet and found the answer. (Thank goodness, because telling a teenager they needed to cut their "cool" hair could be potentially devastating!) From toddlers getting into the jar of Vaseline to teenagers thinking it would be a great way to smooth their hair down, it was reassuring that we weren't the only ones who had the idea to put Vaseline on our head! The answer was very simple - cornstarch. After one application of cornstarch, one more hair washing was all that was needed.

Well-meaning friends offer advice to help us and have the solution to a part of our problem, but may not know the entire answer for us. And that's ok. Friendships are important, because while you may not know all the answers to help your friend through the entire problem, you can advise her on what you do know. And your support is important. You don't need to have all the answers to solve the whole problem. It's more important for you to just be there, offer support, and sometimes being a good friend is just being there as a good listener and laughing together as you both try to figure out how to get Vaseline out of your child's hair! As the Lord lifts up and encourages us, we also reach out and support those friends He's placed in our path. And even with little problems like teenage hair issues!

Ecclesiastes 4:12 "Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
