Ole Man John
by W. Yvonne Birnell

Looky folks who's come to town
It's ole man John again
Maybe we will hear him speak
He never is mundane

Here he goes just hear him talk
This one I don't recall
Oh, I could listen all day long
About when he was small

Someone said, now hush up there
I want to hear his tale
You know John doesn't speak much
It's wisdom he'll unveil

His words sure painted pictures
Of things that he had done
Quiet then I did become
Listening; as John continues on

The battle kept on raging
As in a ditch I lay
Blood flowing from my body
I then began to pray

Dear Lord I'm just a sinner
I know I have no right
Please forgive me for my sins
And help me see the light

Just as I finished speaking
I heard somebody call
Hey, you guys, he's over here
All I could do was bawl

I didn't think they'd find me
Until God's voice I heard
God said, you are forgiven son
I give to you my word
