Godly Living....

"For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come"..... 1 Timothy 4 v 8

**************************************

God makes everything plain and simple it is we who complicate matters. The question is who do you listen to? The world mass media or God's Word. One brings death ultimately, slowly and decidedly and the other brings life? We've always got a choice. How amazing is that! God has given us the choice. He hasn't made us like robots but He has made us in the image of Himself.

As I read this scripture I was actually drawn to the words 'profiteth little'. 'Bodily exercise profiteth little'. The exact opposite of the worlds standards.

As many of you know I walk my doggie cindy regularly and the other week as I sat upon the stone throwing the ball for her I noticed a man out jogging. He was with his dog and the dog jogged along with him. Good idea I thought as I sat there watching him. Then my attention turned to him leaping over a fence exercising even more. I was exhausted just watching him!

I have done the rounds of gyms, squash, tennis, aerobics where the saying was 'no pain no gain'. Torture! But I did it because everyone said it was good for me!

But here we have the scripture stating that 'bodily exercise profiteth little'! What an amazing statement. As the Olympics are happening this year I dare say many will be spending time training and others taking up sport thinking it is just the way to go in life.

'BUT godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life ....'

Here is attached a wonderful statement..... godliness is profitable unto ALL things and comes with a promise! Not just for now but forever!

Mans wisdom is but foolishness in God's eyes. What does it profiteth a man to gain the whole world then lose his soul!

The soul is so important to God. We are worth more than two sparrows yet not one of them falls to the ground without God knowing about it.

Anything of the flesh that is not of God will be burned up and cast into the fire but those who choose the things of the Spirit and walk in the Spirit has life already!

"For therefore we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God...." 2 Timothy 4 v 10.

Do you suffer reproach and ridicule for loving and following Jesus? You will! But blessed are ye when ye are reviled because of my name the Kingdom of God belongs to you!

Do not give up in doing good and living a godly life for you are building your life upon the Rock and when the storms come - and they will - Jesus will hold you fast, both now and forever!

My body although weary and tired stands now in the strength of Jesus. He gets me up all the hills where I live (and believe me they are steep!). I do not feel guilty at all for not doing the things of the world that profiteth little but hold my head high and my soul to Jesus, the author and perfector of my soul.

I strain towards the goal set before me and although I have failed in many worldly things this race I know is already won and not only that Jesus will help me finish it.
