Small Rescues with Great Love
by Nancy Quinn

My Dad was a veterinarian in a small town in Iowa. Centered in a farming community, his business was mostly large animals. But on early weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings, his office doors would open to the neighborhood's small creatures. The neighborhood children entrusted him with their beloved pets, as well as rescued robins that fell out of trees, salamanders with a hurt foot, and the occasional injured snake they found. Seeing the slithery rescues wrapped in an old towel didn't thrill me as I sat behind the front desk, trying to subtly push my chair back to gain a little distance from the injured wiggly patient. My father would come out and kneel down at the child's level and carefully check the little furry, or slithery, patient as if the child's pet was the most important thing in the world.

My Dad's incredible love and patience with everyone who came to him for help reminds me of my Heavenly Father. It's reassuring to know that everyone is equally important to God. He loves the poorest woman in Calcutta as much as the richest man in America. With the Lord, he doesn't care how great or important a person is; he created us all. So I invite you to come to the Lord and rest in his love. You are very important to him and he loves you with an everlasting love. After all, Jesus promises those who are tired and carrying heavy burdens that he will give you rest. And the Lord never breaks his promises!

Job 34:19 "He doesn't care how great a person may be, and he pays no more attention to the rich than to the poor. He made them all."

Matthew 11:28 "Then Jesus said, "Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest."

Psalm 55:12 "Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall."

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
