The Great Escape
by Nancy Quinn

It was a cold winter day and I was lying down in front of the vent, warming my toes as I read my favorite book. Feeling a light, feathery tickle over my toes, the book went flying through the air. Envisioning a mouse, I jumped up and looked to discover I was partly right. It was a distant cousin to the mouse; my hamster Ginger had escaped her cage and decided to explore behind the hutch. As I waited for my little Houdini to emerge from the other side, I wondered how I could have forgotten to secure her cage door.

I put her back into her cage and shut the door. As I reached for her favorite treats, she nudged the latch up with her nose and decided to get them herself! Ah ha, I had a gifted escape artist for a pet! Finally secured and safe with a clothespin pinching the door shut, Ginger would not be gallivanting through the house again.

Just like Ginger was creative, I try to use creativity and energy in using my gifts and talents to further God's kingdom. We don't know how much time we have left to make a difference in the world, so I encourage you to seize the moments of opportunities that the Lord places in your path to help someone whenever you can. I look forward to the great trumpet sound when the Lord calls us all home. But I want to remain busy as I wait for the Lord's return. The Lord encourages us to not tire or give up doing good for others. And I hold fast to the promise that I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

Isaiah 40:31 "But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint."

Galations 6:9 "So let's not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don't give up."

2 Thessalonians 3:13 "As for the rest of you, dear brothers and sisters, never get tired of doing good."

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
