CANADIAN WOODS poem
by Richard L. Provencher

Canadian Woods

The horizon is a slash of
colour as ladder steps
crawling one above another

dusk grinning at the
end of another day. Gone
are logger-assaults
and front-end loaders
tormenting an expanse

of primal timber
where burnished pines
act as sentinels along
ridges of tundra, wilderness, a
domain of ancient sunsets

reddened sky turning
from yellowish tinge to evening's
dim. And from our canoe
faces pause in complete awe.
