STANDING AROUND poem
by Richard L. Provencher

Standing Around

From their earthly
dominion
cows stretch necks,
tongues to
a ravine with water

others watch a
few muddy
feet away. Guernsey's
in brown
and white colours

lessons for mankind.
The day is an
exercise
in non-violence.

Disturbed
from squatting
rest, two
ducks flutter
across the pond

cows stare at
departing wings.
