Standing at the Door
by Nancy Quinn

We have two golden retriever/collie dogs as part of our family. Princess is a big, gentle quiet dog, and Scooby is our crazy energetic dog who we dubbed "Crazy Legs" since he tends to skid into the kitchen in hopes of getting a treat.

Although Scooby's energetic antics constantly make us laugh, he's a surprisingly polite dog. Racing to go outside, he'll skid to a stop at the edge of the front porch and turn around to make sure Princess is behind him. Once she reaches his side, he bounds off the steps to explore the great outdoors. His nightly tradition is to jump on the bed and peek over at my husband, and then peek at me and give my nose a little lick. After he has our approval to be on the bed, he plops down between us and snuggles in for the evening.

Pets can give us such joy, but the Lord Jesus gives us never-ending inner peace and joy when we invite him to be our Lord and Savior. One painting has always been one of my favorites. It's a picture of Jesus knocking on a door. And if you're familiar with this well-known painting, you may have noticed that there is no door knob on the door. This symbolizes that the Lord is polite and knocks on the door of our hearts. He does not barge into your life, demanding obedience. He stands patiently, waiting for us to make the choice to allow Him into our lives. The Lord has placed a multiple choice question to everyone, and He even gives us the answer. Choose life! Do you hear the Lord knocking on the door of your life? Won't you let him in?

Deuteronomy 30:19 "This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live."

Revelation 3:20 "I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me."

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
