SHOPPING poem
by Richard L. Provencher

Shopping

is a shuffle of aged movement.
Overweight purse in hand
the gray-haired lady on
a mission of necessity, her sidewalk
activity like painted strokes up
and down King Street, Ridout, Main
steady arthritic march to Derringer's
Meats downtown Hamilton one
destination for her shopping menu

inside business as usual, dark German
chocolate, right price chicken thighs
and 12 grain bread, browses the
aisles for other good deals, selects
crinkly packages and an avalanche of
food for her pussycat, then races
the push cart to her apartment,
a desperate "Meow" awaits.
