Preparing a Spring Garden
by Nancy Quinn

Tiny buds have begun to make their appearance on tree branches and the refreshing smell of spring is in the air. Gardeners excitedly plan and prepare the soil in anticipation of watching the tiny seeds again turn into tomatoes, corn, green beans and favorite flowers.

Just like Spring means planting again, the Lord wants us to keep planting too. Many churches offer revival meetings in the Spring and those who have struggled through the winter time can be refreshed and revived again by breaking up any unplowed ground of our own souls. This time of year reminds me to do some spring planting and pulling weeds in my own soul. The weeds of jealousy, apathy, and busyness can be pulled, so we can replant love, compassion and faithfulness.

As everything is bursting forth in new life this spring, I encourage you to use this time to also renew the garden of your heart. Try something new and refreshing if the garden of your soul is feeling a little wilted. Buy a gourmet coffee or new flavor of tea and sip that as a treat on the porch as you read your Bible and pray in the morning, attend a revival meeting at a church, or try "prayer walking". I sometimes combine exercise and prayer as I walk through my neighborhood, praying for my family, neighbors and the leaders and brave service people of our nation.

The air is clean and fresh again, with the beauty of the Lord's creation again bursting forth with life again for us to enjoy. As you prepare your garden this Spring again, let it be a reminder to also prepare your heart as you renew your commitment to continue to follow the Lord faithfully.

"Sow for yourselves righteousness, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and showers righteousness on you." Hosea 10:12

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
