Pondering the Psalms: Psalm 2
by Paul Etterling

This Psalm speaks to us about the sovereignty of God. Simply stated He is in control. He can do what He wills.

The sovereignty of God is a thing to be feared. It is futile to think that one (or a group) could set themselves against the Lord and His anointed. This is a Psalm that is both prophetic and messianic. Its fulfillment is seen in the false accusations, illegal trial, beating, mocking, and crucifixion of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Yet, God still reigned supreme. He was still in control for on the third day His stamp of approval was placed on the life and work of His Son. The resurrection is a reminder that we are to fear Him, because in His sovereignty no one who sets himself against the Lord will win. It is better to fear, trust, and obey Him in this life than to oppose and reject Him.
