Time to Rest and "Nest"
by Nancy Quinn

My family loves camping and our camper waits for us at our seasonal campsite so we can pack up and go at a moment's notice. Our coveted free time is reserved for our little wooded retreat and we look forward to evening campfires complete with toasted marshmallows, hikes on wooded trails and front row seats to nature's beauty from our camping chairs.

A tall bird feeder hangs on a tree near our site and delicate sparrows flutter from one side of the bird feeder to the next, sampling and searching for their favorite seeds. The seeds they sometimes drop do not go to waste when our little chipmunk friends scamper along the rocks and get to enjoy a snack as well.

The beautiful sparrows remind me of some people, fluttering from one thing to the next in search of happiness and vain attempts at filling an unknown void in their lives. In hopes that things or situations may make them happier; like more money, a perfect job, an important volunteer position, dating or marriage, they rush through their days in constant search of some unknown answer to fill their heart.

Be assured that only a relationship with the Lord Jesus can give you true peace and happiness. As you strengthen your relationship with the King of Kings through prayer and Bible study, your life and heart will be filled with peace. So if you are feeling a vague unhappiness right now, I encourage you to take a step back and spend time with the Lord. While it's wonderful to stay as busy serving the Lord as the sparrows at our bird feeder frantically fluttering from place to place, remember to not allow busyness to take the place of a true relationship with the Lord. I encourage you to take the time to rest and "nest" at home in prayer and quiet time with the Lord!

Psalm 90:17 "May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us yes, establish the work of our hands."

Psalm 116:7 "Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you.

I Thessalonians 4:11 "Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before."

I Peter 4:10 "Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."

I Corinthians 12:4-5 "There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord."

May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ. Please contact me if you would like to request a specific lesson that Lucy Mouse can teach your children or if you would like a coloring page to be sent to match the story!
