The Holy Spirit and Witnessing
by Fenny West

Winning Ways to Witness (part5)

8''But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

He is the God the Spirit, the Sprit of Jesus, the Spirit of Grace, The Spirit of Life, The Spirit o f Jesus, the Strengthener, Stand-by and Guide, come to remind us of the promises and our inheritance in Christ. Counsellor, the dynamic power of God, the anointing that breaks and destroys yokes, lifts burdens.

'The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him
the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and of power,
the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD '
(Isa11:2)
The Holy Spirit is the Helper, the paraclete- the one much like Jesus, the Comforter He promised to come alongside us to help us when He had left.

"Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?' 6Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief. 7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment: 9in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me; 10in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer; 11and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.
12"I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you. (John16:5-15)

He is the Advocate, One who will plead our case and the intercessor Who pleads our case, praying for us and through us with groanings that cannot be uttered, praying according to the perfect will of the Father.

26Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.Rom8:26

He is the Author of the Word of God, with an unfathomable mind, with eyes that sees the end from the beginning. He is creative, innovative, constructive, instructive, energetic, dynamic, rejuvenating, reviving, enlightening; His power and works are manifold.

The Holy Sprit wrote the Bible as He inspired over 40 people carrying them on His wings, as it were, and revealing things to them that no human mind can fathom. He used some to confirm what others had written, given more details in other accounts as He used the experience of the vessels He used.

12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven.(1Pet.1 12)

16All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: (1Tim3:16)

21For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
(2Pet1:21)

Without Him our witnessing will be lifeless, a going-through-the-motion, fruitless, dead works that will not last. But when we go in the power of the Spirit, signs follow, people will be besides themselves in wonder and bewilderment as He works the incredible through us. we will have fruit that will remain, last and outlast us.
" this signs shall follow 15And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
16He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
Mark 16:15-17
And ye shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come
And when He the Spirit of truth is come He will guide you into all truth
He will remind you what I have said

He brings boldness, audacity, authority as you open you mouth He fills it. As you make time to study His word He comes alongside and helps you when you witness giving you the answers that you need a that time when you need it He will not allow you to be put to shame but help you to handle the word of truth with skill and accuracy and dexterity and integrity and razor-sharpness. Because You have being in His presence, sort His help, depending on Him. Without Him we can do nothing but with Him we can do all things. He is the Lord of the Harvest Who goes before us to make crooked paths straight. He convicts the world of sin righteousness and judgement.

And for these reasons the disciples were advised to wait in Jerusalem until they received the Holy Spirit.

This is why it is written 'you shall receive power
But to have the power of the Holy Spirit to witness there are prerequisites as we look at he passage below.
1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
13Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.
14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Acts2:1-17
They were
1. Obedient
2. Prayerful
3. In one accord- unite, in harmony
4. Reliant

What were signs that followed?:
1. miraculous divine visitation
2. bewilderment of people around
3. fire, wind orchestrated by heaven
4. speaking in different tongues they had not learned.
5. Hitherto timid disciples becoming bold
6. Revival-Harvest of souls

This is what awaits us as we acknowledge the Holy Spirit in our witness, obedient, depending on Him, praying and being in one accord.
