Haggai 2:6

"For thus saith the LORD; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth," a. (NIV) "In a little while I will once more shake" b. (NASV) "Once more in a little while, I will shake" c. (AMP. BIBLE) "Yet once more, in a little while, I will shake" d. The KJV is clumsy in this verse. When this verse is quoted in Hebrews, the writer of Hebrews who I presume to be Paul, seems to be more in line with the other translations. 1). Hebrews 12:26, 27 "Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven. And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain." 2). The terminology used in the passage, "Yet once more" sets this shaking apart from all other passages using the terminology of the "shaking of the heavens and earth". Such as Joel 3:16, "The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of his people, and the strength of the children of Israel." The context of Joel 3:16 is clearly the second coming of Christ and not the end of the Millennium and the Great White Throne Judgment. 3). I believe the Apostle Paul's terminology in this passage from Hebrews, "signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken" means heaven and earth are to be shaken and removed. The only place pointed to by Scripture where this event could occur is after the Millennial Reign of Christ, and during the Great White Throne Judgment. 4). Revelation 20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them." 5). "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea." 6). My opinion from this study of Haggai 2:6, in conjunction with Hebrews 12:26, 27 reveal that the context speaks of the New Jerusalem, but just with this single verse, i.e., Haggai 2:6. 7).The passage in Isaiah 13:13, I believe is a general prophetic verse speaking of the second coming of Christ and the GWTJ. "Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger." My name is Don Costello.
