Good Decisions
by Jonathan Bruch

Jason sat on his bed flipping through skateboarding magazines he read a million times before. It was Saturday night and he was bored out of his mind. He wondered what Jessica Lang was doing. If he called her would she hang out with him. He turned the thought over and over in his head. Finally he decided that there was no way that she would want to spend her Saturday night hanging out with someone like him.
Deciding that it would be best to get his mind off it he turned on the tv. At that moment his mom opened the door and poked her head in. "hey Hun", just thought id say goodnight. He let out a good night and kept flipping through the 62 channels that basic cable had to offer. He was about to give up when the sharp beep of his cell phone cut through the monotony. Reaching down off his bed he picked up his beat up razor from the floor. His heart skipped a beat when he saw Jessica's number on the display.
Pushing the connect button he said hello? Jessica's voice came over the line. " hey, Jason what are you up to."
"Nothing much just relaxing at home, why?"
He could hear the sound of a car and other girls laughing in the background
"well I was just on my way to a party with some of my friend and was wondering if you wanted to go."
His heart leapt when he heard her! She was asking him to go to a party with her!! Could it really be happening.
"yea id love to go, who's house is it at?"
" its at Nate Freewells house, its supposed to be awesome."
His heart dropped into his stomach when he heard Nate Freewells name. Nate was known for having crazy parties. Parties that sometimes got out of control and always had a lot of alcohol. It definitely wasn't the atmosphere that a Christian teenager like himself should be in. why does this have to happen to me. Why cant it be someone else's house he thought to himself. He was torn between it, he knew his parents would approve of him going, Yet they were asleep and would never have to know. He found himself fighting between his morals and his worldly desires. He wanted a relationship with Jessica more than anything, but he knew that it wouldn't be right to go to this party. Taking a deep breath he knew what he had to do.
"Um actually Jessica I'm not sure if I can go. I just remembered that I have a ton of things I have to do tomorrow."
"Oh, well I guess I understand."
He could tell that she didn't really understand. He fought off the urge to tell her He'd go.
"Well I guess I'll see you at school on Monday."
"Yea, was all Jason managed to get out before the phone went dead. He put his phone on its charger, shut the lights off and got into his bed. He lay there wondering if he had made the right decision. Closing his eyes he whispered a prayer for comfort from what he had to just do. When he opened his eyes he already felt a little better. Rolling over her shut his eyes and drifted off into sleep.
The sound of his alarm woke him from his deep slumber. Reaching over he hit the button on his alarm clock causing that infernal beeping noise to quite. Opening his eyes he looked at his clock. The red digits glowed 10:00 am back at him. Well at least he wouldn't be waking up with a hangover like he knew everyone that went to that party would be he thought to himself. Rolling out of bed he stood up and stretched.
Heading downstairs he entered the kitchen. His dad was already up and was sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast. "Morning", he said as he passed his dad on the way the covert were he grabbed a box of applejacks. As he poured milk into his cereal he glanced up at the tv which his dad was watching. The news was on and the headline caught his attention. " 5 Teenagers Dead In Car Accident".
At that moment the newscaster came on.
" Last night 5 teenage girls were killed leaving a party when their car crashed into a tree. Lab results from the autopsy showed that they were all over the illegally over the limited for alcohol. The car was registered to a Jessica Lang who was driving at the time of the accident.

This is a short story i wrote one nite. It hits home for me because ive had to make the same decision before. When you honor God He honors you. God knows what best for you and he wants you to be happy. From personal experience I'd suggest listening to him.
