VOTE FOR CHANGE, NOT HISTORY (2008)
by Shakera Reid-Stewart

"Know where you stand and why you stand there when voting. We all have a voice and we should use it. The issues as a whole, as well as the improvement of the country and the people in it should be our major concern. We have to learn to look at the big picture and do what's best. We all know that there is no perfection when it comes to politics so we can't just focus on one or two issues. No one can tell you who to vote for, just vote for the person for the right reasons. Pray for discernment!"

Many people never thought they'd live to see the day,
That the thought of a Black President wouldn't have been cast a zillion miles away,
We've gone from Blacks being insignificant to now taking up leadership roles,
It's amazing what can happen when we let our voice be heard at the polls.

He is an eloquent speaker, who speaks of a positive change,
A vote for him could bring a brighter future into closer range.
At this point he seems to be the leader of the pack,
But for heaven's sake, don't vote for him just because he's black.

Once upon a time, a woman's voice was never to be heard,
The mere mention of a female in politics was simply absurd.
Women were meant to be nurturing, and good for keeping house,
We've flipped the script on them; we're no longer meek as a mouse.

She's got great experience in this political game,
She's truly an admirable candidate and has made quite a name.
There's no doubt that she can lead and do what any man can.
But why would you vote for someone just because she is woman.

We should be proud that America is progressing at this pace
But we should not put all our emphasis on gender and race.
Personally, I'd be happy to see them both leading the country.
As long as the good of EVERYONE in the United States is primary.
