Exodus 21:16
by Don Costello

Exodus 21:16

And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death.

a. The commandment included also stealing a fellow Israelite.

1). Deuteronomy 24:7 "If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put away evil from among you."

b. Although I believe that America was founded on Christian principles, one of the horrible sins where we came up dreadfully short was the enslavement of the black man. Then on top of that came the slowness of changing it. I am fully persuaded that many of the problems we are facing today as a nation are because we are reaping on those very seeds. This is also New Testament doctrine.

1). 1 Timothy 1:8-11 "But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully;
Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,
For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be amy other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;
According to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which was committed to my trust."

c. Although on paper the 180 degree change has come, in many hearts black and white the change has not come, but bitterness and enmity still exist. Hence, many of the problems we have today in our nation.
