RETURN TO SUDAN poem
by Richard L. Provencher

Return to Sudan

The train is a whining
echo, chasing footprints
of steel, charging
through rock-blasted ravines

and forested green sash,
delightful as fine
cloth from the
markets in Khartoum.

I'm anxious to return to my
mission, where families
receive medicines of
hope. And I return

with presents, books, tea
and paint supplies. For
Claudua a pair of
sandals.
