Picture Perfect
by Chris Surber

There is something spectacular to me about photography. It is fascinating to have the ability to freeze a moment in time with the press of a finger and the snap of a shutter. I once had a photography teacher who said something that changed the way I viewed photography for ever "Learn to see light differently."

Those simple words are considerably profound. You see, when you look at an object you are not looking at that object at all, you are looking at light which is bouncing off of that object. What our eyes perceive is the light reflected from the thing, not the thing at all. So it is with the Cross of Christ. Its meaning is lost if we only consider the wood of the beams and the flesh of His body.

To fully comprehend the meaning of the Cross we must learn to see light differently. We must learn to see the light of the love of God which is being reflected from the Cross of Jesus Christ! Then as we allow that light to flood our souls we will be become just like the pictures which I love to take, images of the love and light of Christ!

"But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." (Galatians 6:14 ESV)
