Does Your Anchor Hold?
by Donald Mehl

We all must diligently study and memorize God's Word that we would learn and hold firm to what He is telling us. That is so important in these last days with evil all around us. Satan knows his time is short and is working overtime - using temptations, deceit and lies to draw unsuspecting, uninformed folks away from the Lord.

The following Scriptures, as well as others, are Truths we must understand and embrace to not be led astray. I pray that many eyes would be opened as the Light of the Scriptures is revealed.

Eph. 6:12 NKJV
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Acts 20:29,30 NKJV
For I know this, that after my departure savage wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock. Also from among yourselves men will rise up, speaking perverse things, to draw away the disciples after themselves.

Gal. 1:8,9 NKJV
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

2 Pet. 2:1-3 NASB
But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will also be false teachers among you, who will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing swift destruction upon themselves. Many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of the truth will be maligned; and in their greed they will exploit you with false words; their judgment from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.

1 John 4:1-3 NKJV (Very important for discerning the Truth)
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.

Matt. 7:21-23 NKJV
"Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' "And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'

Those words of Matt. 7:21-23 should be among of the most frightening words in all of Scripture. Many folks believe they are living the Christian life - doing all the things Christians do, saying all the things Christians say, and by all outward appearances, they would seem to have it all together.

However, they have never fallen on their knees in true repentance, they have never mourned over their lost spiritual condition, and they have never truly given their heart and life to Him in humble and total submission. They don't have a personal born again relationship with Him. Jesus has never been the Lord and Master of their life as He commands of His followers. Most have fallen victim to Satan's deceit and lies - causing a spiritual blindness and hardened heart. Sadly, as Scripture says, when they stand before Him one day soon as we all must do, they will hear the words, "I never knew you; depart from Me."

And finally...

Luke 11:28 NKJV
But He said, "More than that, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!"

Satan is relentless in his efforts to draw us away from God. Every day is a battle for good and evil. If we don't recognize the evil surrounding us, or don't believe it can affect us, then Satan has already won the battle for our soul. As Eph. 6:11-18 clearly explains, we must put on the full armor of God to be strong in His mighty power to stand firm against the devil's schemes.

Is your anchor holding firm on the solid Rock of Jesus Christ and His Word? Or...is your anchor hopelessly attached to the world with all its snares and temptations - only to be swept away in the storm?

You must be very sure!

During retirement, my prayer is that I might serve the Lord by sharing the Gospel through my writing. As the Lord leads, my work will inform, challenge and encourage. I also enjoy Biblical theme woodcarving, Bible studies and Christian music. Watch, pray and keep looking up!
